How deep should mulch around trees be?

Mulch around trees is generally about 2 to 4 inches deep, spread in a ring and kept off the trunk. Too much mulch can smother roots, so more is not better.

How often should tree mulch be refreshed?

Mulch breaks down over time, so most tree rings need topping up about once a year. We can check your tree rings and tell you what they need.

How much do tree mounds cost in Lake Havasu City?

Tree mound cost depends on the number of trees, the size of each ring, and the amount of mulch or soil needed. Call (928) 208-7905 or send photos of your trees for a quote.

Should mulch touch the tree trunk?

No. Keep mulch a few inches away from the trunk, because mulch piled against the bark can hold moisture and harm the tree. Proper mounding forms a ring around the tree, not a pile against it.

What is a tree well and do I need one?

A tree well is a shaped basin around a tree that holds water so it soaks toward the roots. A tree well installation helps in dry climates, especially for young trees.

Does mulch help trees in Arizona heat?

Yes. Mulch around trees helps soil hold moisture and stay cooler, which eases stress in hot, dry weather. It also keeps weeds down and gives the bed a neat finish.

What is a tree mound?

A tree mound is a raised ring of soil or mulch built around the base of a tree to hold water and define the planting area. Tree mounds are often called tree rings or mulch rings.
